Comb binding is a popular form of binding documents which uses plastic combs to hold the paper together. An advantage of this type of binding is that the document can be opened to change the contents if necessary. There are manual and electric punch options available depending on your budget and volume of use.

Our range includes machines from leading manufacturers such as Renz, Fellowes, Beyonder and GBC. For a small office we would recommend products such as the Beyonder C21D or the GBC C95. The Beyonder has the advantage of cancellation pins enabling you to bind different sizes of documents up to A4. It is able to bind up to 450 sheets of 80 gsm paper. The GBC is a more portable machine with a built-in carry handle and has a binding capacity of 165 sheets.
More heavy duty models include units with separate punching and closing mechanisms. This allows you to buy one machine and have a range of dies for comb, wire and spiral binding. These machines can come with either a separate or built in closer. A separate closer gives you the option of making the binding a 2 person operation which can allow for increased production. An example of such a setup would be the Renz DTP 340M or the Magnum S350. This electric Renz machine, which takes the effort out of punching, can take a range of tools for wire, comb and calendar binding. It is able to punch 30 sheets of 80 gsm paper at a time. It has optional closer units which clip onto the front of the punch.
These machines use plastic combs which are available in five stock colours with other colours available on request. The plastic combs are available in a selection of sizes to accommodate documents up to 475 pages (80 gsm). For the smaller sized documents the combs are round, with larger size documents of over 300 pages the combs are oval. Please note that not all comb binders take the larger size of combs.
