Spiral Binding

Spiral Binding Spiral binding is another name for coil binding, where a document is punched along the edge and fastened with a plastic coil. These coils are spirals, a bit like a spring and are inserted using a turning motion, either manually or with an electric closer. The coil is held in place in the document by crimping the end of the coil. On some automatic machines this is included as part of the process. On others you need a pair of crimping pliers to complete the operation.

Our binding machines use the standard 6mm gap between holes. Popular spiral binding machines include the Renz SPB360 which has a manual punch with integrated electric spiral inserting, cutting and crimping. This machine allows you to bind up to 170 A4/A5 sheets of 80 gsm paper. It has the option to add an electric punch.

A well priced alternative machine, proving popular in offices and schools, is the Coil Mac Punch Inserter. This machine has adjustable selector pins for quick and effortless punching of a variety of paper sizes. The electric roller inserter allows hands free insertion of coils. With its adjustable edge guide it even allows for oversized covers.

An advantage of spiral binding is that it the binders are easy to use. The plastic coils are practical, strong, durable and flexible. Once the coils are bound they are almost indestructible and will not crush or become brittle. A continuous binding coil ensures that no pages will ever fall out. The coils come in a range of colours and sizes from a 6mm coil diameter up to a 32mm coil diameter capable of holding up to 265 sheets of 80gsm paper.
